EMDR Therapy at Hold Space Counseling
Healing trauma by reconnecting with your inner resilience
Some experiences leave a lasting imprint—not just in your memories, but in your body, emotions, and sense of safety. You may find yourself reacting strongly to situations that don't seem to “make sense,” stuck in old patterns, or feeling like part of you is frozen in the past.
At Hold Space Counseling, we offer EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as a gentle yet powerful way to help your brain and body process those experiences—so you can move forward with more clarity, ease, and self-trust.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is an evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy that helps people heal from disturbing life experiences, including trauma, anxiety, grief, and more. It’s grounded in the understanding that your brain is naturally wired to heal—but sometimes experiences get “stuck,” especially when they overwhelm your nervous system at the time they happen.
EMDR helps unstick those memories so they can be processed in a healthy, integrated way.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to retell your full story in detail. Instead, we use bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while guiding you to safely access and reprocess the memories, sensations, and beliefs connected to your past experiences.
This can reduce emotional distress, shift limiting beliefs, and restore a sense of balance in your nervous system.
What Can EMDR Help With?
EMDR is most well-known for treating PTSD and trauma, but it’s also highly effective for many other concerns. We use EMDR therapy to support clients navigating:
Single-incident or complex trauma
Childhood neglect or abuse
Anxiety and panic
Grief and loss
Attachment wounds and relationship trauma
Negative self-beliefs (e.g., “I’m not good enough”)
Phobias or performance anxiety
Medical trauma or chronic illness
Perfectionism and shame
Emotional dysregulation
EMDR can be used as a standalone therapy or integrated into ongoing talk therapy, depending on your needs and goals.
What Does EMDR Feel Like?
Clients often describe EMDR as feeling deeply empowering. You're not reliving trauma—you're revisiting it from a grounded place, with your therapist there to support you every step of the way.
During sessions, you may experience waves of emotion, shifts in body sensations, or changes in how you think about the past. Many clients feel lighter, clearer, and more connected to their inner strength as the work unfolds.
The pace is always up to you. We never rush the process and take time to build safety, trust, and readiness before beginning any trauma processing.

You might benefit from EMDR if:
You have distressing memories or flashbacks
You struggle with self-worth, shame, or harsh inner criticism
You find yourself emotionally triggered in ways that feel out of proportion
You feel “numb,” anxious, or disconnected
You want to release the emotional charge from painful experiences without having to retell every detail
